Top Questions about Undet

The trial version is not limited. After the trial ends, you will not be able anymore to load point clouds into ARES Commander, all created geometry models & line work will be saved in a DWG file for further use.

License is stitched to computer hardware, not to the user account.

    Yes, there are no restrictions.

You can import any point cloud file from a 3D laser scanner, UAV or photogrammetry software. Supported point cloud formats: *.E57, *.FLS, *.RCP/RCS, *.PTX, *.ZFS,*.LAS, *.LAZ, *.PTS, *.PLY, *.DP, *.FPR, *.LSPROJ, *.FWS, *.CL3, *.CLR, *.RSP, ASCII / NEZ (X,Y,Z/i/RGB) and custom ASCII / TXT file format imports. We are recommending using structured point clouds in case to get access to all Undet for ARES Commander & Undet Browser features.

Undet software is well-optimized and can handle massive point clouds (hundreds of GBs in size) on a regular PC. No need to worry about file sizes.

Undet software suite combines the powerful Undet plug-in tools with ARES Commander CAD simplicity to offer an intuitive workflow to quickly and easily create 2D drawings based on precise as-built point clouds.

Undet software suite license consists of the following:

    • ARES Commander software
    • Undet point cloud plugin
    • Undet Indexer – project creator
    • Undet Browser (Point Cloud Viewer)

    Two license options are offered:

    • One year subscription
    • Three-year subscription

ARES Commander is not the same as AutoCAD but it is a cost-effective alternative for DWG-editing that provides a familiar look & feel that is intuitive for any experienced CAD user. It is making no compromises in features and innovations and includes a full set of 2D drafting and 3D Modeling features.

Both CAD software are simply using the same DWG file format. There is no conversion and therefore no loss of data when files are shared between ARES Commander and AutoCAD users.

Nowadays, most leading AutoCAD alternatives, such as ARES Commander, are fully able to replace AutoCAD. Users who are familiar with AutoCAD can instantly switch to ARES Commander without additional training. Lear more ->

There are various reasons why one might want to switch from AutoCAD to ARES Commander.

Firstly, ARES Commander is compatible with the DWG file format, meaning that you can edit your existing AutoCAD files without any issues.

Secondly, ARES Commander is generally less expensive than AutoCAD, making it a more affordable option for many users.

Thirdly, ARES Commander – the n°1 Alternative to AutoCAD. Graebert’s CAD technology represents the second largest installbase after AutoCAD only. Millions of professionals are working with CAD software powered by ARES Commander. This includes three of the top 5 construction groups in Japan (Obayashi, Takenaka, Taisei, LG, Hyundai and many more industry leaders).

Additionally, ARES Commander is an easy switch to AutoCAD – No Learning Curve. AutoCAD users can instantly switch to ARES Commander without additional training. It uses the same keyboard shortcuts and commands and aliases have been defined to match the ARES commands when they are different. The user interface is also significantly similar.

Both plugins Undet for AutoCAD and Undet for ARES Commander, provide easy-to-use tools for viewing and working with point cloud slices. Undet for AutoCAD offers a more comprehensive range of functions and tools to do different projects, but in general, these additional tools are not needed to produce accurate 2D drawings (elevations, floor plans, sections) based on 3D laser scan data.

A few things that the Undet for ARES Commander plugin offers exclusively:

    1. Clean and easy-to-use user interface (attractive to beginners)
    2. Better point cloud management performance against AutoCAD to utilize massive point clouds.
    3. Point cloud transparency mode to make the main point cloud outlines crystal clear.
    4. The price difference per seat is obvious (AutoCAD + Undet vs. ARES Commander + Undet).
    5. Specialized Undet Tools for Floor Plan creation: built-in and ready-to-use templates, dynamic blocks, specialized workspace, annotation scripts and blocks.

There are no special requirements, current workstations or gaming laptops can handle massive point clouds:

    • Operating System: Windows 10 & 11 OS 64-bit.
    • RAM: 16GB and more
    • Hard Drive: A solid-state drive (SSD). For maximum performance, please use M.2 SSDs.
    • CPU: Intel Core i5 and newer.
    • GPU: NVidia or AMD graphics processor with OpenGL version 4.4 or newer support. For example: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 / GTX 1050 Ti / GTX 1650 / RTX 3050 / Quadro K2000 and newer. AMD Radeon R9 270/FirePro W5100 and newer.

The Undet software license requires your digital system codes (SITE & MID) to be activated. These codes can be find via Undet license manager can be opened in Extensions -> Undet menu by clicking “About”

Only one employee can open the Undet project from the local server. To avoid performance drop when working from the server, Link speed (Receive/Transmit) should be 10/10 (Gbps). Without this speed, the point cloud project should be copied to the local SSD disk drive.

    Virtual Machines are not supported.
